Need
some ideas to get started?
Always start with something you know.
You might have a great novel burning within you (the next J. K. Rowling, perhaps?), but that thought is overwhelming for some. How-to
or self-help books on any subject are always popular, especially as a first book. If you are very knowledgeable about
a subject, that is usually a great place to start.
For a great family gift, interview
a grandparent and/or other elderly relatives in your family. Start with their earliest memories and record their version
of your family's history. Include pictures. Give the books as presents to all the relatives. (If you can't
afford to give one to everybody, they would probably be happy to pay for this priceless piece of family history.)
Hints for writing a family history:
Plan on several interviews; old memories do not necessarily occur in chronological order. Record the good memories. Don't include things that could be negative, hurtful
or embarrassing to other family members. A family history
could be photocopied and put in a binder if you need to save money or want something you could easily add to in the future.
